invest in google adwords to promote your blog.

Traffic generation to your blog, from my experience, is generated through unique content, current events, blog tags, and of course pinging your blog.

I don't think it is financially beneficial to pay for Adwords just to get traffic, unless your running a business, or earning affiliate revenue.

Some of my Free Ideas for generating standard blog traffic.

Blogging posts about a specific topic you have a passion for, and posting links in a forum related to that topic.

For Example: Your Blogging about happenings in your hometown, whether they are good or bad. You local or regional newspaper may have a forum, for citizens to discuss local events or politics. Post a link to your blog in it.

Or if your blog thene is about arts and crafts, and you belong to several arts and crafts forums, you could put a link to your blog in your signature.

Anywhere, you fill out a profile online, always include a link to your blog!

Dual Blogs: Wordpress.com has categorized blogs by tags. You could start a Skeleton Blog, touching the basics of your original Blog. On your Skeleton Blog you would use keyword rich tags as well as an RSS feed of your main blog. (hope that makes a little sense). You could actually have another skeleton blog on blogspot. So you would be running 2 skeleton blogs leading to your main blog. however, I would not link the skeleton blogs together.

Current Events. go to the google news page and see what the top news searches are. If any of the top news searches fit your theme of your blog. write a blogpost on that topic.

During Hurricane Ike, I blogged a link to a live news stream called "Live Feed Hurricane Ike" on wordpress.com filled in keyword rich tags related to the post. then i pinged my blog using technorati.com. Within 1 hour I had 250 unique visitors.

These are just some of the ways to drive traffic to your blog site.
