Blagojevich is married to Patricia Mell, daughter of Chicago Alderman Richard Mell. Richard Mell used his connections to help him in his political career. Rod and Patricia have 2 daughters Amy and Anne.

On December 9th, 2008 Gov. Blagojevich was arrested by the FBI, on charges of Bribery, (which carries a sentence of up to 10 years) and conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud (which carries a sentence of up to 20 years), attempting to sell President-elect Barack Obama's vacated Senate seat.

He was released on his own recognizance

Gov. Blagojevich has refused calls for him to resign his Governorship over his recent arrest, and a growing number of voices are calling for him to resign or get impeached.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan, may seek removal of Governor Blagojevich through the Illinois Supreme Court.

Four Illinois State Reps. sent a letter to fellow party members in the statehouse, stating their desire to impeach the governor.
