On December 9th, 2008 Gov. Blagojevich was arrested by the FBI, on charges of Bribery, (which carries a sentence of up to 10 years) and conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud (which carries a sentence of up to 20 years), attempting to sell President-elect Barack Obama's vacated Senate seat.
He was released on his own recognizance

Gov. Blagojevich has refused calls for him to resign his Governorship over his recent arrest, and a growing number of voices are calling for him to resign or get impeached.
Attorney General Lisa Madigan, may seek removal of Governor Blagojevich through the Illinois Supreme Court.
